Thanks to 90 players and 22 sponsors, the 2nd annual “Divots and Diamonds” Celebrity Golf Tournament on November 2, 2009 was a monumental success. The stunningly beautiful weather and wonderful Hills Country Club course were the setting for current and former major league players like Robin Yount, Roger Clemens, Huston Street, Larry Dierker, Art Howe, Keith Moreland, Brooks Kieschnick, Roger Metzger, Spike Owen, and Ross Ohlendorfer. The celebrities were chosen by a "draft"; each of the teams of four was joined by a celebrity in a modified scramble format that competed for team and individual awards. Cancer Connection volunteers were all over the course encouraging the players, spreading the CC message, and helping to make the event memorable for all.
The golf was followed by a time for meeting and greeting the celebrities, an awards ceremony emceed by Larry Dierker, music by Margo Valiante and her band, a bargain-rich silent auction, and a banquet of tasty barbeque. This wonderful day will resonate throughout the balance of this year and the next; the money raised by Divots and Diamonds will supply 25% of the total funds spent by Cancer Connection in touching the lives of cancer survivors and their families during 2009. Because of the revenues produced by this one day, our volunteers and staff will be able to offer hope and support to over 4,000 cancer patients and families.
We will tee it up again at The Hills Country Club on November 8, 2010 for our 3rd annual event and another opportunity for you to have a "two-fer": support Cancer Connection and have a wonderful day of golf and fun. Please mark your calendar and plan to be a part of this really important day. The earlier you register as a player or a team, the higher your draft position in securing the celebrity you want.
