| Volunteer Opportunities
We offer one-on-one, emotional support for cancer patients and family members as long as needed. Every Cancer Connection volunteer has personally experienced cancer, either as a survivor, or by caring for a loved one with cancer. Individuals requesting support are matched with volunteer survivors or caregivers who have experienced the same type of cancer under similar circumstances.
Oncology Center Visitation Program
Connection volunteers visit with cancer patients and their families at participating oncology centers, to offer snacks, information about community resources, and emotional support for patients facing treatment alone. Oncology center volunteers also inform patients and their families of the many ways the Cancer Connection and its volunteers can be of service to them.
Hospital Visitation Program
Receiving treatment in the hospital can be one of the most isolating and frightening experiences for a cancer patient. For that reason, Cancer Connection has partnered with the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the St. David^s Community Health Foundation to create the Connection LIVESTRONG Program. This program provides specially trained volunteers who visit patients and families in the hospital setting, introduce themselves as cancer survivors, inform patients and family members about our unique services, and most importantly, listen to their thoughts and concerns.
Community Connections
Cancer Connection volunteers are also trained to participate in corporate and community health fairs, workshops, and conferences. We welcome requests to have our volunteers and/or professional staff (Speaker^s Bureau) make presentations to help other organizations reach persons dealing with cancer.
